oh my gosh - if you’re around my age (32) you simply must have some level of affection for boy george and culture club - i still remember listening to karma chameleon when i was kid and thinking to myself that lead singer boy george was way cool - next month he’s doing a small club tour here in the states and i bought my tickets awhile ago - i’ll be seeing him play at the el rey theatre on july 15th - the night after i catch coldplay on the first night of their US tour (i am in love with chris martin - and contrary to recent reports the band’s new album viva la vida does not suck) the middle of july is going to be super hot! i just love going to concerts - tomorrow morning i’ll be picking up janet jackson tickets for when she comes to los angeles in september!



the pictures below are from tonight’s opening of the RS lounge club over in london where boy george lent his DJ skills (i just bought a kick-ass technics turntable - finally i can play my vinyl) he actually looks fairly decent (he was never a cute guy - interesting - oh yes - cute….no) he’s had a bunch of super messy incidents over the years but somehow he still manages to pull himself together (as a bonus i’ve included the video for do you really want to hurt me? one of the band’s best songs and he better sing it live in july) popbytes over & out for now…xxoo

good evening! ok yes - i’ve seen these pictures on a bunch of other sites today but how could i pass up posting on a ‘golden girls’ reunion (estelle getty (84) sadly was not present) that took place on the red carpet over the weekend at the 6th annual TV land awards (which you can catch when the show airs next week) i do adore both betty white (86) and rue mcclanahan (74) but my favorite ‘golden’ lady hands down is bea arthur (86) probably because she played one of my favorite TV characters (besides ‘dorothy zbornak’) of all-time maude who happened to be the very sassy ’spin-off’ cousin of ‘edith bunker’ (played by the incredible jean stapleton (85)) from my top show ever all in the family - nobody makes sitcoms like those anymore - both shows were completely ahead of their time and they still hold up today! i did like the golden girls but you simply can’t compare it to norman lear’s sheer genuis! popbytes over & out for now…xxoo

In a New York Times piece from this weekend called “Frustration and Fury: Take It. It’s Free.,” Jon Pareles visits Trent Reznor’s place “on the outskirts of Beverly Hills,” where there’s an ever-expanding kitchen renovation in the works; in fact, it turns out the only “neat and dust-free” room in the house is the studio where Reznor’s been recording his recent material, Ghost I-IV and The Slip. It’s another article about the shifting music industry, artists leaving their labels, etc., but Reznor’s candor turns it into something more interesting. Presenting the NIN brain-trust as “an old-school rocker who is devoted to the album as a creative unit,” but who has “reinvented himself as a digital-era adept,” Reznor talks candidly about giving away the music for free (”Aside from any kind of monetization of it, I’m glad to know that a million people have it on their iPods,” re: The Slip), NiggyTardust! (”I don’t know how you could look at this as a failure”), his own freedom from a label (”It was bittersweet”) and his general self-doubt (”I don’t even know why I’m saying this in an interview situation, but I always feel like I’m not good enough for some reason…”).

For his part, Pareles details the newer records well for folks who haven’t heard about them: We get the content and the stories around them (how long they took to make, Reznor’s philosophies behind them). We also find out Reznor’s collaborating with Tarantino producer Lawrence Bender on a cable TV series about Year Zero, among other things, and that Mr. Trent will soon have more free goodies: The software he created to “distribute digital files, assemble databases and connect easily with other applications.” (”We’ve spent the money to make it,” Mr. Reznor said. “Take it.”). Fascinating in a fly-on-the-wall sense are the descriptions of the home studio (”It has burgundy brocade curtains over red velvet drapes over plywood-lined walls,” etc) and Reznor’s conflicted thoughts on everything I’ve cataloged up to this point. As he tells Pareles, “I don’t agree that it should be free, but it is free, and you can either accept it or you can put your head in the sand.” He says more, too (”I know how old I am,” he said. “I’m not trying to fool anybody”), and comes off like a really good guy in the process.
