Stereogum Presents... RAC Vol. 1

André Allen Anjos’s Remix Artist Collective came on our radar last spring with some inspired Bloc Party and Tokyo Police Club remixes. We’ve kept an ear on the 23-year-old Portuguese artist ever since, and late last year cooked up with André the idea of compiling previously unreleased remixes to celebrate RAC’s first year. Today we bring you that mix, titled Stereogum Presents… RAC Vol. 1, as a free 9-track MP3 download and embeddable flash player. Here’s the tracklist:

1. Bloc Party - Helicopter (Intro)
2. Bloc Party - Hunting For Witches (RAC Mix) (extended)
3. Au Revoir Simone - Sad Song (RAC Mix)
4. Tokyo Police Club - Nature Of The Experiment (RAC Mix)
5. Ra Ra Riot - Manner To Act (RAC Mix)
6. Robbers On High Street - Across Your Knee (RAC Mix)
7. You Say Party! We Say Die! - Like I Give A Care (RAC Mix)
8. Femme Generation - Orlando Boom (RAC Mix)
9. Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (RAC Mix)

Two of those have appeared online before, but they’ve been extended and changed. The rest are new to you. André’s remixes are not meant for clubs, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dance to them.

Primal Scream Stream New Single, Cover Hawkwind

Legendary Scottish crew Primal Scream are about to release their ninth studio album, Beautiful Future. It includes tracks produced by Peter, Björn & John’s Björn Yttling and bigwig Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Babyshambles, Kate Nash, the Futureheads, etc.) and collaborations with Lovefoxx of CSS, Josh Homme, and Linda Thompson. You can stream the Scream’s swarming, enjoyably retro single, “Can’t Go Back,” at the band’s MySpace. If you’re anxious to load new PS onto your iPod, though, you can download another new track, “Urban Guerrilla,” simply by passing over your email address at this special site. If you do, or if you just stopped to read the above headline, you’ll notice it’s Bobby & Co. doing a pretty faithful take on Hawkwind’s song of the same name, though the band doesn’t mention that anywhere, as far as I can tell. It’s also unclear if the cover will be on the new record. If you trust Wikipedia, the answer is no, but check out this fan video for the track, please.

Beautiful Future is out 7/21 via B-unique.

Pay What You Want For Girl Talk's Feed The Animals

According to Billboard.com, the new Girl Talk is gonna be ready for download sometime “over the next few weeks.” Gregg says this is his chamber pop masterpiece, featuring a 16 piece symphony orchestra, a vocal choir, and Brian Eno on production.

Totally JK it’s totally gonna be another supersample cocktail obviously. More than 300 samples, to be more precise, whilst clocking in at 55 minutes. As for the libraries he’s raiding:

“This project has always been about embracing pop,” Gillis says. “I feel like the source material on this record has more in-your-face classics. Because of that, it’s more over the top.”

And if you were one of those that thought Night Ripper needed to linger on some of those inspired sample blends a little longer, Gregg’s got you in mind, saying that he “spent time focusing on a particular song source … rather than jumping” around “as quickly as possible.” The only place this art will be available, legally, is Illegal Art. Price? It’s up to you. No really, etc. We’ll let you know when that happens. Also there will be shows — the Capitol Hill Block Party and the NYC area APW festival — and most likely there will be shirtlessness. Get ready to be tased, bro.

...And Guitar Hero For All

We knew they loved record stores and hated downloading, but following in Aerosmith’s digital footsteps and MissionMetallica.com, it appears the guys are moving further into the computer age with a Metallica version of Guitar Hero. Aerosmith’s is out 6/29, and looks like you’ll have to wait until the New Year for Metallica. If their’s is anything like Aerosmith’s, expect a number of songs from their oeuvre. We’re not sure how many of the cruddy newer tunes they’ll include, but we decided to include a photo of the current lineup just to keep Cliff, Jason, and (even) Dave out of it. Let’s give it up for Ron McGovney, too. There are a few additional details.

New MGMT Video For “Electric Feel” Features “Very Sexy Girls Who Can Dance For Real”

Keywords: , , , , ,

Yes, it is a new MGMT video for “Electric Feel.” But it is not the first video for “Electric Feel.” That one was interactive and came with the ability to adjust the color schemes and can still be downloaded if you like adjusting color schemes in your oudated videos. So what’s changed since December ‘07 and now, to inspire another clip for the track? Well there’s “Time To Pretend” taking off and generating sweet licensing $$ (e.g. season finale of Gossip Girl), for one. What has not changed is Ben and Andrew’s consistent love for extras in videos. Showing skin seems essential.

New Sigur Rós - “Gobbledigook” (MP3 & Video)

Keywords: , , , , ,

Best Band In The World alert. Thank you Sigur Rós, for making my post-holiday transition back to the internet so super great. This morning word spread that Sigur Rós’s new album has a name (með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust), a translation (”with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly”), cheeky (as in ass-y) artwork, a sample track, a free MP3 (IT IS SO GOOD), and a video. A very NSFW video (IT IS ALSO SO GOOD). And there’s more: Jonsi’s gonna sing in English! On just one track, but still, pinning down the man’s emotional conveyances via syllables with actual meaning will be a fairly new experience. There will be one tune in the journalist-coined Hopelandic language, but the rest will all be in the band’s native Icelandic tongue, which makes the title of the first single and free download, “Gobbledigook,” ironic in its own Rós-colored way. The band’s released lots of information surrounding the release via official statement, which we’ve pasted in full post-jump for the benefit of fellow obsessives, but here are the details in nugget form [this is a so very Not Safe For Work jump, people]:

New Santogold - “Lights Out (Bud Light Remix)”

Keywords: , , , ,

With her spread out style and numerous monster jams, it’s not easy to understand Santogold’s Commercial Appeal. If it seems like we’re reporting on it every other day, it’s because we practically are; see: the “Creator” spot for Bud Light, the Converse commissioned Casablancas & Pharrell cut). While we’re waiting to hear what the team of Julian, White & Williams came up with, here’s another advertiser-underwritten Santi jam to bide the time, made possible by the coffers of Anheuser-Busch. In its full-flavored form, “Lights Out” is an ’80s new wavey standout on the superbly schizophrenic mixtape that is Santogold. For the King Of Beers (Light), Santi mostly cuts the palm-muted eight-note guitar chug and swaps the synth-styles from the Cars to the Cure. It’s nice. This remix is for you at budlighttime.com. (Only if you’re 21. Please download responsibly.)

New Wolf Parade - “Language City”

Keywords: , , ,

One of Dan’s many shining moments at Mount Zoomer, “Language City” is a driving early rocker cut that shifts through a few sections of alternating urgency, shifting and pairing salt-of-the-earth guitars with Spencer’s winding synths. Honestly, though, every time we hear it we’re just biding time to that 3:45 mark, when we get a stomping, club-ready bassline that delivers thrills, and chills, each time out. It’s one of those moments that sounds like it’s always been written, just that Wolf Parade fell upon it, and it makes us want to see them live so fucking badly. It’s yours for the downloading at MySpace.

New Coldplay - “Viva La Vida”

Keywords: , , , , , , , , ,

Hate ‘em or hate ‘em, you guys love talking about Coldplay. EMI’s bragging that 2 mililion people downloaded the first free single “Violet Hill,” so feel good, you’re not the only ones hate-listening. And Chris Martin knows this: On the new cut “Viva La Vida,” he croons “revolutionaries wait for my head on a silver plate.” So, one point for self-awareness, and another for turning out a fresh sounding (if U2-y in spirit) track. A Coldplay song with a string section and church bells that manages not to sound pretentious? No small feat, you guys. We credit fatherhood. Or Eno. Either way, the half-the-title track to the forthcoming Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends will probably inspire fewer bilious comments than last time — and definitely fewer comparisons to Radiohead.
