Basement video sessions are all the rage these days (see: Nigel Godrich, Juan et al). So in furtherance of that trend, rather than producing a glossy “proper” video, Martin Dosh keeps it real underground with this live jam from his basement studio as the official clip for “Capture The Flag,” from his forthcoming Wolves and Wishes LP. Martin’s always caught our ear for his solo projects, his compositional good graces, and his multi-instrumental contributions to people like Andrew Bird, so this is a treat. We get to Dosh doing his multi-instrumental thing, trigging loops, running through the spiraling keyboard lines, topping it off with his controlled and jazz-damaged live drumming. You won’t find percussive pockets that run any deeper. We sorta love this guy.

We’ve long ago forgiven blazing Austin-based garage triad White Denim for kicking the mic stand into Scott’s camera this past CMJ, but some of us are still processing the nudie old folks in their video for “Look That Way At It.” (Not that there’s anything wrong with being old and naked). Rip-roarin’ two-minute tidbit “Goldie Locks” is helping wash some of those wrinkles out of our heads. Though, to be honest, we’d appreciate something a little longer next time. The wee wrangler is the third single from their self-titled exclusive RCRD LBL EP and can accordingly be had at RCRD LBL for free. See how that works? They’re on tour with Tapes ‘N Tapes, as we speak.

Now that Broken Social Scene is through Presenting Kevin Drew, the collective can move on to Presenting other people who make music. But first, what exactly constitutes a Broken Social Scene Presents billing? From what we can tell, the artist in question must:
- be a member of Broken Social Scene
- have lots of people from Broken Social Scene and/or Canada do cameos on the solo record in question
- have a beard
So with KD out of the way, BSS take the logical next step of pimping the wares of one Brendan Canning, Broken Social bassist and Kevin’s tour mate throughout his Spirit If…ing. In fact, we first heard a Brendan tune at McCarren Pool, in the midst of Drew’s set opening for Feist. Here’s some murky, submerged pop from Copenhagen-based BTW Slaraffenland. It’s an interestingly underwater track from the quintet — the horns and breezy melody tug it from the undertow, letting it subtly hook you. “I’m A Machine” is the lead track from the band’s forthcoming five-song Sunshine EP — which also includes their OKX track, “Paranoid Android” — and it lets us know that thousands, maybe millions of eyes making contact: “I don’t know why, but they’re scared.” We’re not sure either, but great song. The EP’s not in stores yet, but you can grab it if you catch the guys on their “Danish Dynamite” tour with Efterklang, which starts tomorrow.
